||Day Camps - Junior Day Camp Counsellor
|Summary of Duties
||Junior Camps provide children ages 4-6 the opportunity to improve self esteem, motor skills, creativity, and social skills through a variety of arts and physical activities as well as excursions to local places of interest.
Role: Under the supervision of the Playground or Day Camp Coordinator and Supervisor of Neighbourhood, Children & Fire Services, the Mini Camp Counsellor is responsible leading the Mini Camp program at a specific site and for appropriate supervision of the Mini Campers.
- Supervise the activities at a particular program location to ensure the care, safety and security of Mini Campers during program hours.
- Plan and implement a varied recreational program involving crafts, active and quiet games, sports and special events for children 3 - 5 years of age, in accordance with Child and Youth Agenda priority areas.
- Maintain daily records of attendance, program activities, and safety checks.
- Maintain an inventory of program and first-aid supplies.
- Use appropriate behaviour modification techniques when supervising participants.
- Ensure that equipment, facilities and grounds are safe play areas for children.
- Communicate with parents/caregivers of participants on a daily basis.
- Ensure all City of London policies and practices are adhered to.
- Work cooperatively with other program partners.
- Provide a final written evaluation of the program.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum two years experience working with children ages 4-6.
- Experience with children with special needs and/or behavioural challenges an asset.
- Able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Second language is an asset (please indicate on resume).
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be certified in HIGH FIVE® - Healthy Child Development and Standard First Aid prior to start of programs.
- Must have a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). See “Important Information for Summer Day Camp/Playground Positions” under Student Employment for necessary details.
- Completion of online training modules prior to start of programs (available by end of May 2014).
- Minimum age 16 by start of programs.
** Junior Camp sites are located throughout the city. Applicant will be responsible for their own transportation.
||$10.50 - $11.00 per hour
Based on up to a 40 hour work week.
*Duration and hours may vary depending on participant registration.
Up to 10 weeks, including mandatory training dates on June 26-27 and 30, 2014. Staff may also be required to attend 1-2 mandatory training sessions in May and/or June.

b) If a new VPS was not submitted for 2012 employment, applicants much submit a new one that has been conducted in the past twelve (12) months with application.
LETTERS OF REFERENCE
NEW Staff: Must submit two (2) letters of reference with application. Letters cannot be from family members. At least one letter must speak to applicant’s ability to work with children.
RETURNING Staff: Do not need to submit a letter of reference.
HIGH FIVE ® and Standard First Aid
HIGH FIVE ® certification is offered through the Spectrum and must be taken prior to the start of summer programs (ie. by end of June).
Standard First Aid is offered through the Spectrum and various other agencies throughout the city. All applicants must have CURRENT Standard First Aid (not Emergency) certification prior to the commencement of summer programs (ie. by end of June).
