Summary of Duties Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities.
 
Role:    Under the supervision of a Neighbourhood, Children and Fire Services Supervisor, the Chess Instructor is responsible for leading a high quality program at specific site locations throughout the City of London.
Work Performed 1. Lead high quality recreation activities at a particular program located to ensure participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment
2. Implement and follow program plans as outlined by Supervisor.
3. Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, injuries and safety checks.
4. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, parents, the general public, school personnel and coworkers.
5. Communicate program supply needs to Program Coordinator and/or Supervisor as required.
6. Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to Supervisor.
7. Assist with the distribution of program literature as required.
8. Ensure all City of London policies and practices are adhered to.
9. Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications 1.  Experience working with children in a recreation environment, with a minimum of 1 year experience an asset.
2.  A minimum of one year experience playing, or coaching a sport.
3.  Able to demonstrate good communication, high energy, enthusiasm and continued positive attitude.
4.  Excellent oral communication skills.
5.  Standard First Aid/ CPR & High Five - Healthy Child Development Certification required.
6.  Current Vulnerable Positions Screening Police Reference Check satisfactory to the City of London.
7.  Minimum age may apply.
 
Please note: Program sites are located throughout the City. Applicant will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the program site(s).
Compensation Range $10.25-$12.50 per hour
Other Information Hours may vary depending on number of programs agreed to work.
 
Employment Period
Duration of employment will depend on class and participant registration. Fall, Winter and Spring sessions run for a minimum of 6-8 weeks each.
