Position Summary Wilfrid Laurier University is a leading Canadian university known for academic excellence and a culture that inspires lives of leadership and purpose. With more than 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Laurier has a distinct commitment to teaching and learning, research and scholarship. Laurier is of one Canada’s fastest growing and innovative multi-campus universities and is poised to meet its future with vision, energy, and optimism. External Relations are core to Laurier’s continued success and critical to further strengthening Laurier’s brand and the bonds it shares with its many partners, stakeholders and communities.

As Assistant Vice-President, reporting to the President and Vice-Chancellor, you are responsible for a broad portfolio focussed on building and strategically advancing the University’s brand, profile and reputation locally, regionally, provincially, nationally and internationally. You will lead a multi-campus, integrated, external relations team comprised of marketing and creative services, communications and public affairs, and university community relations. You will collaborate with faculties and administrative units to ensure consistency in Laurier’s message, approach and strategy, and partner with the School of Business and Economics to promote the continued integration of entrepreneurship and innovation across all facets of the University. Your scope will extend into the various communities served by Laurier, with the goal to develop, expand, and nurture relationships and partnerships and provide sound counsel and support to the university’s government and community relations efforts, locally and provincially.

As the ideal candidate, you are an inspiring and innovative strategist with the vision, creativity and record of aligning, integrating and promoting activities that cut across an entire organization. Your background and experience in business strategy, communications, marketing, branding, and community relations will serve you well in this key leadership role. You are a diplomatic, facilitative and persuasive communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to rally academic leaders and partners to embrace and support Laurier’s external activities, goals, and message. As a spokesperson, you have the presence and credibility to effectively represent Laurier to a diverse stakeholder community. Your experience in the post-secondary education sector is a highly desirable asset, as is your post-graduate degree.
