|Position Summary :
||The “Youth Leader on Board” Leadership Project is designed to enhance the leadership and governance knowledge, skills, and experiences of senior undergraduate students by providing the opportunity to serve as a student member on the Board of Directors of a nonprofit organization. This project is supported by the view that non profit board involvement is an excellent opportunity for leadership development. YLOB provides training to students on board governance and first hand exposure to the challenges, roles, and responsibilities of Boards of Directors. One of the express goals of the initiative is to strengthen the linkages between the university and local organizations, and meet the goals of Boards for the youth perspective. The program involves two components: a one-day training workshop on the role and responsibilities of Board members, followed by a one-year placement.
The YLOB Project Assistant will provide program support through the following activities: development and maintenance of a database of organizations placements/opportunities, a database of participant and interested students, develop a website for the program, manage program communications, and provide assistance with the one-day Board governance workshop
• Develop and maintain organization and student database
• Manage email communications with organizations and students
• Design and develop a website for the program
EVENT PLANNING – BOARD WORKSHOP DAY
• Oversee student registrations and payments
• Oversee room booking and catering
• Prepare hand-outs and other written materials distributed at the workshop
||• Secondary school plus (1) year post secondary and at least two years of administrative experience is required
• Event planning experience
• Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Website development and administration
• Familiarity with MyLS, preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong public relations skills
• Attention to detail
|Salary Notes :
||This is a part time limited term position from May 6, 2013 - October 31, 2013.
Hours: Variable but approximately 5 hours/week – May to October, 2013 not to exceed 120 hours.
