Position Summary Operating under the direction of the Manager, Facilities Planning, Design and Construction, the Project Coordinator is responsible for directing multiple, complex projects from concept to completion in the most cost effective and timely manner. Coordinates project planning, design, budget preparations, tender solicitations, contract awarding, and tracking of project budget and schedule. Acts as the University’s official representative on projects with consultants (architects and professional engineers), contractors, and approval authorities. Projects may range from small internally designed projects to large, complex, new building projects designed by outside consultants.
Accountabilities
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction; and in consultation with the Senior Project Coordinator performs the following tasks:
• Interacts with user groups to define project requirements and develop documents which become the basis for design;
• Develops project budget in consultation with design professionals and users. Also responsible for including costs and instruction for items not within the scope of the general contract
• Develops the Terms of Reference for consultants, including aspects such as the building requirements, special subconsultants, applications for approvals, design schedules, allowable disbursements, fee payment schedule, etc;
• Prepares project schedules that will include all critical items throughout the project including the design schedule and the construction schedule;
• Oversees the tendering of projects and ensures that the contract documents are complete and the tender form is clear to interpret;
• Responsible for reviewing shop drawings and/or ensuring that the consultant thoroughly reviews shop drawings. Monitors critical delivery dates and undertakes corrective action when specified materials are not available or are unsatisfactory;
• Responsible for monitoring the project schedule and budget and taking corrective action when schedules or budgets deviate;
• On projects designed in house, the Project Coordinator is responsible for issuing all change orders and negotiating the costs of these changes with the contractor;
• Reviews payment certificates and makes recommendations for payment of contractor;

• Able to reliably multi-task on time and budget project procurement
• Experience in accurate project balanced budgeting
Qualifications
• Minimum college diploma in Construction Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or Architectural Science, plus minimum 5 years construction project experience .
• Eligibility for registration as a C.E.T., A. Sc.T., or Architectural Technologist considered an asset
• Registration as a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) considered an asset
• Institutional or commercial renovation/construction knowledge and experience
• Demonstrated experience in construction project management
• Thorough knowledge of Ontario Building Code and the OHSA Regulations for Construction Projects
• Ability to read, and comprehend engineering and architectural drawings
• Ability to read architectural drawings and specifications
• Training in and working knowledge of AUTOCAD would be considered an asset
Grade WLUSA-09
Salary $32.49-$38.21
Salary Notes *This is a full-time, limited term position up to a duration of seven (7) months from January 2, 2013 to August 30, 2013.
