Position Overview The West Vancouver Planning Department has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Planning Research Assistant.
Responsibilities The successful candidate performs technical work in the gathering and production of diverse information relative to municipal planning. The incumbent will be responsible for:
• Researching historic property information
• Performing research and analysis, and drafting reports on community planning matters;
• Preparing presentation material
• Answering enquiries from the public on development policies, zoning and development applications
• Providing administrative support including arranging meetings and taking minutes;
• Maintaining a wide variety of information, statistical reports, and records pertaining to planning issues; and
• Performing other related duties as required.
Requirements The preferred candidate will possess practical skills in urban planning at the municipal level including: researching property matters; applying policies and zoning regulations; researching and analyzing community planning matters and developing charts and reports from these findings; preparing clear, correct, concise maps, charts, diagrams, letters and documents; considerable knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; the ability to work under pressure, work independently, and meet deadlines; and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The successful candidate will have a university degree in the social sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Some experience in a municipal planning office, and proficiency in Adobe Pro/Acrobat and publication software would be considered an asset. A current valid Driver’s Licence is required.

The successful candidate is required to supply a criminal record check and a copy of their credentials.
