The West Vancouver Community Services Department has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Program Coordinator – General Fitness & Access Services.
||Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Health & Fitness this position will be responsible for the provision of community weight room programs, rehabilitation exercise programs, personal training services and staff scheduling as well as health and wellness initiatives with the Community Services Department. This work involves:
• Assessing individual and community fitness needs and interests;
• Planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating new and/or revised programs and services to ensure cost efficiency, effectiveness and program relevance;
• Recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating permanent part-time, casual staff, personal trainers and instructors; and
• Preparing promotional material and promoting interest and participation in health and fitness activities of the community.
In addition, this position will also be responsible, along with the Access Program Coordinator, for providing access services functions, including: promoting and facilitating recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities as well as individuals facing barriers such as financial, language, cultural or mobility; addressing the recreational needs of individuals including evaluating and processing financial assistance for recreation programs; and assisting with the planning, development, marketing and evaluation of specialized programs and services.
The preferred candidate will possess: strong leadership, budgetary, organizational and customer service skills; previous experience and proven success in exemplary teaching methods and group leadership techniques related to strength and conditioning, rehabilitation exercise programs and personal training; sound knowledge of fitness facilities and equipment required for a wide range of physical abilities and age groups; a knowledge of the fitness and health needs, trends, interests, requirements, and resources of the community; familiarity with the philosophy, principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation. Knowledge in third age programs, sport-specific training, mind-body programs, and new fitness approaches is desirable. Experience working with people who face barriers to inclusion, including financial, language, cognitive, and physical barriers.
||The successful candidate has completed a University Degree with courses in Kinesiology or related subjects or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Required certification includes: related BCRPA certification including current Supervisor of Fitness Leaders or equivalent; current CPR-C and Standard First Aid; and a valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle. Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Class Registration software is an asset.
