| Position Overview |
The West Vancouver Planning, Land Development & Permits Division has an immediate opening for a permanent, full-time Inspector-Trades II (Building Inspector). |
| Responsibilities |
Reporting to the Supervisor of Inspections, this position will be responsible for: • Reviewing plans and specifications for zoning and building compliance; • Inspection of buildings to confirm conformance with the BC Building Code and municipal bylaws; • Extensive communication with builders, owners, architects, professional engineers and municipal staff on a variety of regulatory and administrative matters; • Maintaining building department records and preparing reports; and, • Other related duties as required. |
| Requirements |
The preferred candidate will possess: thorough knowledge of the current BC Building Code and Municipal Zoning and related bylaws plus working knowledge of the Electrical bylaws and BC Fire Code; the ability to deal effectively with architects, contractors and the general public in interpretation of bylaws and regulations; the ability to enforce regulations with firmness, impartiality and sound judgment; and sound knowledge of building design and approved practices and materials used in building construction.
The successful candidate has completed a Diploma in a Building or Engineering discipline (or equivalent) and possesses experience in building construction and design, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification by the Building Officials Association of British Columbia is preferred.
A valid BC Driver’s Licence and a vehicle are necessary for this position. During the assessment process, candidates will be asked to submit an acceptable Driver’s Abstract from ICBC.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Criminal Record Check and a copy of their credentials. |
