Position Description Professional Practice Leaders contribute to transforming the health care experience through defining and integrating profession specific practice standards to create effective and efficient models of inter-professional patient centred care.
 
Key Qualifications:      
 
  • Holds MScPT, MSc.Rehab or other post graduate degree and has 5-7 years clinical experience in physiotherapy
  • Current membership and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Demonstrated professional practice leadership and effective conflict management skills
  • Preceptor or teaching experience required as well as ongoing professional development 
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and provide feedback
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to work collaboratively within and across professions
  • Demonstrated ability to implement strategies that effectively facilitate change
  • Demonstrated commitment to knowledge transfer strategies to ensure practices are evidence informed 
  • Knowledge of applicable legislations, college regulations, standards and scope of practice
 
Position Summary:
 
As a leader of a health profession within the organization, the Professional Practice Leader is responsible and accountable to:
 
  • Provide leadership for clinical practice within own profession and act as a mentor
  • Provide leadership to advance evidence based inter-professional patient centered care 
  • Provide leadership to identify the need for profession specific and inter-professional quality improvement initiatives
  • Conduct annual learning needs assessment for the profession and develop strategies for both profession specific and inter-professional learning
  • Role model professional and organizational core competencies and Standards for Behaviour
  • Consult with profession members and health systems regarding: skill levels, roles and responsibilities, competency, ethics and college requirements within their own profession
  • Promote the advancement of the profession, both internally and externally through practice, research, education and quality initiatives
