Position Description THE POSITION - OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Campaign Director, in this role, the Senior Development Officer, Writer provides expertise in writing and fundraising, combining a solid understanding of marketing with a sophisticated and influential style of writing to develop successful fundraising proposals.
This person works closely with the Associate Vice President, Leadership Giving, Manager, Leadership Gifts and the Development Officers in the Leadership Gifts portfolio as well as with key individuals in the Marketing and Communications department. The Senior Development Officer, Writer also liaises extensively with Hospital staff in interview environments to gather relevant information for the purpose of proposal development.
To support Leadership Gifts solicitation with highly-customized, compelling proposals for qualified donors and prospects (>$25,000); letters, letter proposals and briefing reports; fact sheets, backgrounders and case for support summaries.
The individual in this role also works closely with Marketing and Communications to Support Leadership Gifts stewardshipwith accountability reports for donors at the <$250,000 that show gift impact; customized thank you letters; support communications for recognition events as needed.
The Senior Development Officer, Writer maintains the information library on hospital priorities.
Liaises with appropriate clinical, research, and hospital support staff to obtain facts on fundraising priorities and to verify content of final proposals and accountability reports.
University degree or college diploma in communications, journalism, public affairs, marketing communications or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years experience in proposal writing in a fundraising setting or related field, preferably with a healthcare focus.
Outstanding written communication skills and demonstrated success at writing
Ability to work independently in a busy environment managing multiple varied projects.
Strong organizational, research, fact-checking, interviewing, project management skills.
Flexible and adaptable team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
Experience working collaboratively with professional service suppliers/partners.
Experience with MS Office Suite, Adobe InDesign and Raiser’s Edge would be an asset
Knowledge of layout and design and desktop publishing would be an asset.
Have a valid driver’s licence and regular access to a vehicle in order to travel between sites as needed.
