Position Electrical Engineer

Reporting To Operations Manager, Power Generation Systems
Key Accountabilities
  • Provide full range of consultative, hands-on electrical engineering services within our design team including the electrical design and integration of any electric power system supplied by Toromont Cat from needs assessment to design development
  • Participate in customer meetings on a regular basis to ensure detailed information is incorporated into the design
  • Manage electrical aspects of projects from initial feasibility study, accounting/budgeting, planning, scheduling, monitoring, quality control through engineering, design review and acceptance testing
  • Specify and work with equipment vendors as required
  • Prepare concept development and detailed drawing packages for production and construction
  • Maintain comprehensive and organized technical library
  • Provide construction support services including commissioning and start-up, preparation of final acceptance documentation and equipment operation training
  • Participate in safe and environmentally sound work behaviours and objectives at all times in support of Toromont's Health and Safety Policy/Program (s) and best practices
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Science (Eligible for P.Eng)
  • 5-10 years experience in electrical power generation systems, distribution, protection schemes, control systems, PLC programming, SCADA, HMI and ACAD
  • Familiar with National/Canadian Electrical Code and understanding of construction industry
  • Ability to develop single line diagrams for low and medium voltage power generation systems
  • Ability to design generator breaker control systems, protection schemes and electrical distribution
  • Ability to size and specify electrical equipment for power generator systems ranging from 100 KW to 100 MW
  • Ability to develop control narratives, program PLCs and generate AutoCAD drawings
  • Experience with a range of switchgear, motor controls, panels, and generator set synchronization and protective devices, load schematics and sequence of operation
  • Customer centric with the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all levels of organizations both independently and within internal and external project teams
  • Superior planning and organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with competing priorities
  • Proven consultative approach with the ability to proactively recommend viable solutions
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and diagnostic skills and the ability to make timely and effective decisions
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License/clean driver’s abstract and be willing and able to travel as required
