Title Category & Contract Manager (Calgary) - NEW (Cameron Bigford)

This is a significantly challenging role as an individual contributor supporting the Upstream America (US, Canada etc.) business for the Wells Construction Services (WCS) category. We’re looking for high potential candidate who are looking for growth and challenges and is able to:


  • proactively manage the Wells Construction Services (WCS) category across UA to get best value 3rd party spend and performance through the application of effective and efficient CP processes
  • take responsibility for $120-150 MM per annum spend and ensure robust contract management in order to deliver lowest total cost of ownership
  • lead and facilitate the development of CP strategies in partnership with business Category Owners
  • and Holders respectively, Global Category Manager as applicable
  • develop and support the development of contracting strategy to secure third party services in compliance with schedule, quality requirements and on best commercial terms taking into account the risks and opportunities
  • ensure alignment with global strategies through the expansion of existing GFAs as applicable and
  • ensuring maximum local commercial advantage through regional and local contractual agreements
  • maintain regional/global business leverage and connectivity
  • analyze and understand business drivers, supply chains and the market sector
  • participate in the development and use of Low Cost Country Suppliers, as applicable
  • engage with category stakeholders and suppliers around Wells Functional Improvement Plan (FIP)
  • / CP Dashboard business plan deliver
  • facilitate input, as required and appropriate, from key stakeholders outside CP (e.g. Wells, Legal, Tax, IP, SD, Finance and HSE) in category strategy syndication and implementation
  • maintain regional/global business leverage and connectivity
  • manage contract and contractor performance through the BPR process or Project Teams
  • ensure compliance with CP procedures, standards and business controls (including Business Principles and Export Compliance)


Position Dimensions:


  • Category Strategy execution and Contract Management with a total combined contract portfolio value of up to USD $150-170M/annualized.
  • this position will also support development and execution of WCS strategies in direct connection
  • with TOGS (Transforming Onshore Supply Chain) project
  • interact with Well Delivery Managers, Superintendents & contractors to deliver value through robust contract management
  • deliver annual value improvement targets
  • work as a part of global Wells Services category team
  • lead cross-functional team on the execution of the category/contract manager role, including appropriate coordination across UA as appropriate

  • Bachelors degree
  • minimum of six years Contracts & Procurement (CP) or related experience
  • familiarity with Upstream Oil and Gas business preferred
  • experienced in CP strategy development, group contract management process, post award contract management, and supplier relationship management
  • knowledge of HSE Management Systems
  • strong written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to work in a team-based environment
  • maturity and confidence to engage senior internal and external stakeholders
  • fluent English (verbal and written)
  • high-energy individual with tenacity, good interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver
  • strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • strong leadership and influencing skills to engage and influence senior stakeholders, to build the strategy and manage category and contract management activity plans
  • good negotiation and interpersonal skills required
  • comfortable with influencing without direct reporting relationships
