Title Assistant Manager, Design & Construction
Job Status Full Time Regular
Employment Group Exempt
Overview Reporting to the Design & Construction Manager, you will provide technical and administrative assistance to the Design and Construction Division of the Engineering Department.
Scope

Drawing on your knowledge you will perform administrative and supervisory duties in staff management, project management, planning, coordinating, reporting, monitoring, policy interpretation and cost control.  You will recommend and implement capital construction works, and rehabilitation works related to the City’s bridges and pavement assets, in addition to a variety of other technical and project management assignments. 

 

The successful candidate must be familiar with the design and construction of water, sewer, drainage, and transportation infrastructure, municipal asset management, a range of project delivery models, and you have a good understanding of the design and construction process, as well as engineering contract administration and law.  You are a team player who thrives in a challenging environment, a problem solver, an effective oral and written communicator, manager and mentor of subordinate staff.

 

Requirements

As the successful candidate you have a Bachelors Degree in civil or municipal engineering or a Masters Degree in a related discipline of Engineering; possess a P.Eng. designation; or are eligible for registration with APEGBC; and have a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the field of civil engineering, of which 5 years should be in a municipal environment and 5 years should be in a management role.

Note Effective fall 2013, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
