Overview

The Surrey Nature Centre at Green Timbers offers nature-based programs and events for schools and the public, with the goal of increasing awareness and appreciation of nature and the environment.

 

Scope

The Nature Centre Programmer will plan, implement and promote interactive nature education programs, with a particular emphasis on preschool and elementary school programs, children’s day camps and family events. He or she will supervise junior staff and volunteers.

Requirements

Essential qualities for success in this position include enthusiasm and creativity, along with strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. A passion for nature and the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment are also vital.

 

The successful applicant must have completed Grade 12, supplemented by a diploma or degree in education, environmental studies or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus 2 years of progressively responsible related experience, including supervision, or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.

 

Other requirements include a valid BC Driver’s License with a safe driving history, Occupational First Aid Level One Certificate or acceptable equivalent, and completion of a criminal record check.

Note Effective fall 2013, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
