Overview

If you have a passion for aquatics and recreation then this is a great opportunity. The City of Surrey's Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is seeking a Head Lifeguard to provide leadership, supervision and direction in the development of fun and interactive activities, special events and facility operations.

Scope

As a Head Lifeguard you thrive in a high energy, team environment that encourages and recognizes success. You will provide leadership, direction and supervision to a team of high performing Lifeguards, Instructors, and facility support staff. You will ensure the facility is well maintained and kept clean and safe on a daily basis, in accordance with BC Health Act. You will perform, and direct staff in routine maintenance such as cleaning change rooms, performing scheduled checks of water quality and equipment functions. You will also be required to guard, instruct leadership courses, in-service training and assist in developing program and activity schedules suited to the needs and interests of the facility participants. In addition, you will lead or participate in planning, organizing and delivering special events and leisure swim activities.

Requirements

A thorough knowledge of pool operations, water chemistry, filtration and recreation facility maintenance; current guarding techniques and departmental procedures including applicable safety regulations are required.

 

Completion of Grade 12 plus formal lifeguard and instructor training and completion of pool operators course. Minimum two years experience as a lifeguard / instructor and aquatic program leader. Other requirements include a current certificate in: National Lifeguard Service Award, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and CPR “C” with Auto External Defibrillation certificate, Pool Operator level one. One or more advanced courses are desirable such as: NLS Instructor, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, RLSSC, BCRPA Aquacize Instructor, Supervisor of Fitness leaders.


 

Note Effective fall 2013, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
