Overview

Ready for the next opportunity in your career?  The City of Surrey has an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional, who is looking for a new challenge.  Working in the Mayor’s Office, you will provide communications support as part of the team of one of fastest growing cities in Canada.

 

Scope

Within a strategic communication framework, you will meet a variety of challenges to ensure the Mayor and Council’s vision for Surrey is communicated across a diverse range of stakeholders using a full range of media.  Writing speeches, preparing press releases and public advisories, organizing press conferences, building excellent media relations and providing communications advice are all key responsibilities for this role.  You will also develop proactive and responsive media materials in support of the City’s successes and key initiatives.  You will interact with other orders of government to ensure Surrey’s message is heard.  Your communication expertise will also allow you to provide valuable input in the development of key policies and new programs.

 

Requirements

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor Degree in Communications, political science or public relations, with 5 to 15 years of related experience.  Previous work experience in the political realm, with established relationships, is important.  This role requires flexibility, significant work capacity and a well-honed level of political astuteness.

Note Effective fall 2013, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
