Overview We’re looking for a strong communicator who can handle difficult situations with diplomacy to fill the position of Animal Control Officer. If you are motivated to offer Surrey residents a better community, even under strained circumstances at times, we want to hear from you.

Reporting directly to the Manager, Animal Care & Control your main responsibilities will be to patrol designated areas of Surrey, conduct investigative and regulatory work, and enforce municipal by-laws and licensing regulations related to animals.


The Animal Control Officer will:

• Receive calls from the public in regards to animal related issues and follow up with affected parties

• Investigate complaints regarding animal related by-law violations, including biting or barking dogs and animal cruelty complaints

• Catch and transport stray animals

• Enforce animal control by-laws and licensing regulations by issuing warning notices, notices of offence, orders to comply, court orders and request warrants

• Perform related clerical work.


The successful incumbent will have completed Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to animal care and 2 years’ experience dealing with enforcement or investigation. Or, you have an equivalent combination of related experience and education. You must hold a valid BC driver’s license with a safe driving record and obtain and maintain the RCMP Level 2 Security Clearance.


Applicants should have knowledge of the care and handling of animals, animal related by-laws and licensing regulations along with knowledge of street addresses and geography of the City.

Note Effective February 2014, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
