Overview Reporting directly to the Manager, By-Law and Licensing Services, your primary responsibilities and focus will be to conduct investigative and regulatory work, patrolling designated areas of the City and enforcing municipal by-laws and licensing regulations related to animals.


Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class investigates complaints regarding animal related by-law violations, catches and transports stray animals, issues tickets, and performs related clerical work

Scope As the Animal Control Officer your duties will include but not limited to enforcing animal control by-laws and licensing regulations while investigating and resolving complaints related to animals; investigate complaints regarding biting or barking dogs and animal cruelty complaints. Receiving routine calls from the public and determining the nature of complaints or infractions and takes appropriate action; follows-up with the public and discusses incidents with the affected parties. You will also issue warning notices, notices of contravention, notices of offence, orders to comply, court orders and request warrants and follow-up to ensure compliance.
Requirements The successful incumbent will have completed Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to animal care and 2 years’ experience dealing with animals in an enforcement or investigative context as well as with the public; or an equivalent combination of related experience and education. You must hold a valid BC driver’s license with a safe driving record and obtain and maintain the RCMP Level 2 Security Clearance.

Applicants should have knowledge of the care and handling of animals and animal related by-laws and licensing regulations along with knowledge of street addresses and geography of the City.
