Overview The City of Surrey’s Community and Recreation Services Division provides exciting opportunities and challenges in an active and energetic environment and is currently looking for enthusiastic people for programming opportunities within our Community Recreation Centers.
Scope This position is responsible for carrying out a variety of organizational and administrative responsibilities related to planning, developing and implementing recreation programs and services for Fitness, Health and Wellness. Working as part of a team, this role will also initiate community development processes; support, train and provide leadership for appropriate instructors, and co-ordinate programs and facilities. You will also be required to assist in staffing and coordinating programs and facilities, and preparing related promotional information.
Requirements The successful applicant must have completed grade 12 education supplemented by a degree/diploma in recreation or related field plus 2 years’ experience in recreation work which includes supervision. Essential skills include the ability to work effectively hands-on with children, youth, adults and seniors; build relationships with existing community groups, and apply creativity in developing unique programs tailored to the needs and interests of the Community.

Effective and tactful communication skills are a must for this position. Demonstrate initiative, a positive attitude, strong public relations, and the ability to multitask. Experience in working with groups to provide strong leadership and support their development would be an asset.
Computer experience in specific programs including Microsoft Office and CLASS are an asset. As well, you will have your current fitness certification (BCRPA, BACK or CSEP), Standard First Aid and High Five certificates and be able to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check. You must have a valid B.C. Driver’s License.
Note Effective February 2014, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
