Overview

Students seeking summer employment with the City of Surrey must currently be full-time students (September 2012 - April 2013) and planning to return to full-time studies in the Fall of 2013.

 

The City of Surrey may be looking to fill temporary Clerical positions within various departments throughout the City for the Summer of 2013. In these positions you will be responsible for providing support and assistance to the various departments’ activities and projects. Duties will be varied, some of which include clerical work, providing office support and engaging customers throughout the department.

Scope

You will perform varied clerical duties including opening and distributing correspondence and file materials, and may be required to provide administrative relief/assistance. Other duties may include gathering information, data entry, processing documents, and maintaining office records such as files, reports, invoices, office supplies, cheques, bills, receipts and requisitions. You will also be required to operate office equipment, such as computers, word processors, photocopiers, fax machines and perform related office duties as required.

 

Requirements

The minimum requirements for summer clerical positions include completion of grade 12, computer skills, data entry, typing score of 45wpm (test may be administered), reception, filing, office experience and strong communication skills. Certain positions may require previous experience with cash handling.

 

For some positions you may be required complete a disclosure of criminal record information. Successful candidates will be selected based on their education, experience and skills related to the job.

 

Some positions may be contingent on Federal Government grant funding and the position may be removed from our website when the minimum numbers of applications have been received.

Note Effective fall 2013, City Hall will be moving to a new state-of-the-art facility located in North Surrey (King George and 104th area). Surrey's New City Hall (NCH) is part of the Build Surrey program, designed to make Surrey an even more exciting place to live and work, and to position the city for growth over the next decade. NCH will act as a catalyst to stimulate job creation in the city and will be easily accessible to residents and businesses.
