Position Title Firmware/Embedded Software Engineer (Linux)
Company Overview Sierra Wireless is currently looking for a talented and motivated firmware engineer to join our development team. You will be working with other members of the engineering team to enhance and develop new features for the Sierra Wireless embedded software platform – ALEOS, which runs on all AirLink wireless smart gateway/router devices.
  • Detailed design, coding, integration, testing, debugging, configuration and documentation for the assigned sub-system, features or tools
  • Participate in peer design and code review
  • Implement software solutions based on requirements, architecture and high level design documentation
  • Assist in developing customer facing documents such as user guides and release notes
  • Assist software test and validation team to develop System Test Plan and Test Cases
  • Participate in the development of test automation tools
  • Participate in continuous software development process improvement
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
  • Degree in Electrical Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a Technology Diploma with relevant industry experience
  • Solid understanding of Linux as a target platform and as a development platform
  • 1-3 years of experience in real-time embedded software development using C and C++ programming language for operating systems such as Linux and Nucleus
  • 1-3 years of experience in systematically troubleshooting embedded software for root causes
  • 1-3 years of experience with ARM based processors
  • Experience in, or knowledge of, Agile software development, continuous integration, and test driven development methodologies is highly desirable
  • 1-4 years experience in TCP/IP networking including Ipv6 and routing protocols
  • Expertise using Wireless communications test equipment such as CMU200 or Agilent 8960 or similar equipment is an asset
  • Must work well individually and in a team environment
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be well organized, methodical, detail oriented with excellent analytical skills
