Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Design & Construction, the incumbent provides technical support and project administration assistance to the department. Duties include performing field measurement verifications, generating, cataloguing and updating drawings, tender documents, specifications, databases, budgets, quotations, schedules and associated documentation to be used by consultants and internal staff for the implementation of new construction and renovation projects across all campuses. The incumbent must have strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal, analytical, organizational and technical skills to be able to work collaboratively with both internal and external resources to ensure the timely, successful completion of projects and assigned tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Surveys jobs sites and performs field measurement verifications. Frequent local travel to all campuses will be required. Prepares concept to final design drawings, drawn to scale, for use by consultants and in-house staff for new construction and renovation projects in accordance to current codes, accessibility guidelines, health and safety regulations, college and industry standards, and end user requirements. Records changes and updates department document / drawing management system. Researches existing drawings, surveys job sites and makes determination and/or computations to produce as built originals (verification will be conducted by taking field measurements and calculating areas to identify the amount of space being used for various activities i.e., office, classroom, laboratory etc).
  • Assists Manager, Design & Construction and other Managers within the department, where applicable, in the day to day duties of project administration, such as obtaining quotations, updating budgets, monitors project work, executes inspections, obtains permits, maintains accurate and up to date logs (RFIs, change orders, vendor information), tracks responses and advises the status of RFIs, coordinates submittals, compiles deficiency lists and procures close out documentation including warranties and operating and maintenance manuals. Ensures quality of work being performed meets college and industry standards during the construction process. Overtime / after hours maybe be required to complete this work.
  • Assists Manager, Design & Construction and other Managers within the department, where applicable in developing and updating project specifications, tender documentation and schedules. Acts as a liaison with contractors and consultants in expediting drawings and related project information.
  • Maintains the department database of drawings and specifications and department drawing standards. Maintains library of materials catalogues and campus finishes. Prepares reports on area size and usage of various college properties for both internal and external use. Maintains an extensive and detailed database on all College facilities for the purpose of submitting to the Ministry and for College planning purposes.
  • Works with Security, Health and Safety and Facilities Managers to advise, implement and control air quality concerns and hazardous material identification, storage and removal on assigned projects.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 year diploma in Architectural Technology or Interior Design, Member of AATO or equivalent. Knowledge and experience with the Ontario Building Code, Large Buildings, and AODA (Accessibility for Ontario Disabilities Act).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the design and construction industry.
  • Must be a proficient user of AutoCAD/AutoCAD Architecture 2012 or later, capable of generating working drawings, plans, standards, templates specifications and bid documentation.
  • Knowledge of construction methods / techniques and current Ontario Building Code.
  • Must have the ability to work with minimum supervision, strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required for frequent local travel between campuses.
Hourly Wage Rate Payband J: Start rate $34.82, Maximum rate $40.37
Weekly Hours of Work 37.5 hours (overtime as required). Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
