Reporting to the Manager, Executive and AV Support, the Computer Technologist is responsible for ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation of the technology and support services in the complete domain of the college. A broad computer knowledge base is required.
Responsibilities • Acting as a consultant by providing technical support and analyzing/correcting problems college-wide;
• Resolving client problems, which can involve software incompatibility, hardware malfunction;
• Assessing requirements and recommending software and hardware to meet users’ specific needs;
• Identifying problems and specific issues, analyzing the behavior in comparison to what is needed. If possible, changes are applied. Otherwise recommend replacement and/or upgrade.
• Providing advice and guidance on the most effective utilization of hardware/software systems;
• Acting as a technical resource for the entire college;
• Servicing all computers peripherals college-wide;
• Planning, implementing, evaluating and providing support for a variety of hardware devices; configuring a wide variety of operating systems dealing with many protocols;
• Providing support for mobile devices, smart phones, tablets;
• Ensuring quality of work by checking for completeness and accuracy; providing guidance on more complex technical installations and/or problems.
• Ensuring that call logs are addressed based on service standard levels and that major issues are escalated and followed up on according to procedures.
• Participating in projects or committees, and performing other duties as assigned.

PLEASE NOTE: This position requires medium to heavy lifting (between 5 to over 20 kg or 11 to over 44 lbs)
Qualifications • The incumbent requires a three-year Degree/Diploma in Computer Science, computing, or equivalent education.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in installing and troubleshooting local area networks and computer software and hardware.
• Extensive current knowledge of the microcomputer hardware and software industry
• A high degree of organizational and people management skills; ability to understand and investigate problems by applying simple to complex principles.
• Detailed knowledge of operating systems and network protocols, all aspects of systems management, and a good working knowledge of a variety of application software.
• Ability to independently work and analyze complex software and hardware problems, search for or devise solutions, and establish priorities and goals.
• Excellent customer service as well as oral and written communication skills with an ability to deal with administrative, faculty and support staff at their level of computer literacy, which ranges from novice to advanced users.
• Proven ability and interest in quickly mastering new software and technologies; competency with several scripting languages and network administration.
• Demonstrated project management skills to keep track of the many pressing demands to ensure that they are all completed within established deadlines.
• Excellent analytical/problem-solving skills to determine alternate solutions, anticipate and prevent problems, and evaluate and implement improvements.
• Excellent judgement, organizational and time management skills to meet the multiple cyclical deadlines of numerous academic areas.
• Ability to work on a team with minimum supervision, independently and using one’s own initiative to make decisions and take appropriate action.
• Attention to detail and strong written skills for preparing technical documentation related to the network infrastructure and customization of installations of software.
• Required ability to understand and apply elementary principles of computer science as well as the ability to organize complex information.

Hourly Wage Rate Payband J: Start rate $34.14, Maximum rate $39.58 (Start rate $34.14)
Weekly Hours of Work 35 hours (overtime as required). Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
