Part-time Associate ECE Worker (up to 24 hours per week)
Under the direction of the ECE Lab School Manager and following guidelines, the incumbent works as a member of a team responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Seneca College ECE Lab School. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring a positive experience for children, staff, parents and ECE students in accordance with the Newnham Campus ECE programme, and all relevant standards and regulations. This is a part-time position working up to 24 hours per week.
• Monitors the physical environment and the programme as implemented to ensure that they meet the standards of the Day Nurseries Act, Public Health, Fire regulations and Metro Criteria; recommends and acts upon modifications as necessary. • Communicates effectively with parents, ECE students, children, ECE Faculty, and staff while exercising tact, sound judgement and respecting confidentiality. • Identifies unusual situations (ie: behavioural irregularities, signs of illness, allergies) and assumes responsibility for ensuring that appropriate action is taken and provides first-aid in cases of emergency. • Assists with schedules and develops written plans according to our philosophy that meet the individual and group needs of the children involved; by incorporating programmes of indoor and outdoor activities that promotes the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of the children enrolled and incorporating the ELECT/Best Start Framework; as well as occasional field trips and classroom visits. • Provides training and guidance to supply staff (casual, part-time) and orients them to the ECE Lab School program. • Provides other duties including attending and participating in staff and parenting meetings, occasional work nights, fundraising activities and participating in Seneca and ECE Lab School promotion and publicity.
• A two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education and member of the College of Early Childhood Educators. • Valid First Aid and CPR certification, an up-to-date medical; TB test and immunization and a “Vulnerable Sector Screening” are required. • One year of experience working in a Child Care setting with children 18 months to 5 years old. • Strong communication (verbal and written) and excellent interpersonal skills, adaptability and flexibility are essential to relate to the multi-cultural/racial/able staff, students, parents and children. • Effective organizational, scheduling and time management skills and the ability to function as a member of a team. • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of the Metro Operating Criteria, ELECT/Best Start and Emergent Curriculum is required. • Strong observation and documentation ability to facilitate observation and documentation of each child’s learning (e.g. artwork, water play, etc.) for developmental planning purposes.
Weekly Hours of Work
Up to 24 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts may vary, starting as early as 7:15 AM or ending as late as 6:00 PM.
