Position Overview Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the incumbent provides specialist services in job evaluation and supports delivery of the College-wide classification system. The position will assist in the creation and writing of job descriptions, collaborate with the Job Evaluation Committee to determine the classification of positions, lead working committees in carrying out occupational reviews, and monitor consistency of classification processes. The incumbent represents the employer on management committees and in dispute resolution processes and grievances as they relate to job classifications. The Job Analyst provides expert advice and support to the HR team and to stakeholders across the College.
Responsibilities • Undertakes analysis and research regarding job evaluation, applies consistent application of job evaluation tools, and identifies benchmark jobs.
• Collaborates with managers to write job descriptions which meet Ontario college standards.
• Assists HR Consultants and management in understanding College classification systems and provides rationale for classification decisions; ensures consistent and defensible decisions on classification matters.
• Represents the College in dispute resolution processes, including grievances; defends classification decisions and prepares and presents documentation to assist employer members during the process.
• Chairs Job Evaluation Committee for the classification of support staff, administrative and non-bargaining unit positions; schedules meetings, documents activity, and ensures timely follow up on outstanding items.
• Provides advice and support to HR Consultants and management on the full spectrum of related activities such as job design and job description development.
• Conducts research and maintains a standardized part-time Support staff classification system.
• Develops and leads committee reviews of job group and program area classifications to ensure consistent application of processes and decisions.
• Creates and maintains an electronic database of job descriptions, evaluations, and historical data.
• Recommends and assists in documenting best practices/standard operating procedures related to College job evaluation systems, and may assist on special projects for the identification and development of new programs, tools and policies. Develops and participates in the design and development of tools and training for stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications • 3 Year post-secondary Diploma/Degree in a relevant field (Business, Human Resources, Communications, Labour Relations or a related discipline), or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum 4 years of experience and a thorough knowledge of compensation systems, point-factor job evaluation systems, job descriptions, and pay equity/labour relations theory and principles
• CHRP or CEBS/CMS designation is an asset
• Working knowledge of employment legislation as it relates to compensation, and the ability to interpret and apply legislation, policy and collective agreement language for effective and consistent service delivery
• Experience providing position analysis services within a large, multi-union workplace; ability to write detailed job descriptions across all job levels
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Superior analytical skills and highly developed interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills are required to interact effectively with the College’s multi-cultural/racial/able staff.
