Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Operations this position is responsible for leading employees in the workplace by clearly communicating expectations for employee job duties, responsibilities and performance. The Superintendent must work effectively as a team player and promote productive and coordinated teams. 
Responsibilities
The Superintendent will supervise, plan, direct and co-ordinate the activities and operations of a variety of areas within the Public Works and Parks divisions. This incudes day-to-day operational requirements, developing work plans and cost-effective initiatives and programs. As an experienced leader you will encourage workplace productivity and a positive environment, you will build and support effective relationships with reporting supervisors, employees, colleagues and the public. Your responsibilities will also include training staff, managing performance, ensuring the safe operation and utilization of equipment. You will participate in establishing long-range plans, create cost estimates, monitor budget expenditures, formulate and implement work procedures and policies, and prepare and maintain records, statistics, reports and correspondence.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications
 
  • post-secondary education, plus a minimum of five years of work experience, preferably in a municipal or civil engineering field;
  • effective leadership skills and ability to function with a high level of independence;
  • a minimum of three years of supervisory experience, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills;
  • effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • an understanding of city operations and unionized environments, and knowledge of diverse multidiscipline fields, such as water, sewer, roads, drainage, solid waste and fleet;
  • experience effectively managing operational budgets; and,
  • proficiency with system applications such as MS Word, Excel and Maintenance Management.
