Position Overview
Reporting to the Watch Commander in the Police department, the Communication Operator accurately collects information, prioritizes and determines the best course of action to take in handling emergency calls.
Responsibilities
This position will maintain contact with officers on patrol and other departmental staff. The Communication Operator will ensure all calls / emergencies are answered, documented and updated. This position will maintain a communication link with the patrol officers to provide a critical link in potentially difficult situations. The Communication Operator will also provide after hour front counter duties by receiving general inquiries and monitoring security system cameras and alarms for the facility.  Other related duties may be required.
 
 
Requirements

This position will be required to work a variety of shifts that include days and nights.

Basic Qualifications
  • Grade 12 and a minimum of one year's related experience with a College Dispatcher Program Certificate or 1 – 2 years experience as a police dispatcher or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • CPIC Operators Course as well as experience with Police CAD and Prime-BC applications
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Ability to use sound judgement and make decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
