Position Overview
The Port Moody Public Library is seeking an energetic, customer-oriented librarian to provide reference, reader's advisory and programming services for both youth and adults.
Duties for this position include organizing and delivering a variety of children's programs; working at the library's Information (reference) desk; participating in material selection and collection maintenance; creating booklists and handouts to support children's services and literacy; and conducting outreach services to school and community groups.  The position reports to the Head of Youth Services.
Hours of work are:  Mondays (9 am - 5pm); Thursdays (1:30 - 9:00pm); and Saturdays (9:45am - 5:15pm).  These hours may change due to operational requirements.  This is a temporary assignment commencing March 11, 2013 until approximately October 2013 with the possibility of extension.

Basic Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program (MLIS / MLS) including specialized course work in the area of children's and teen services and programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum two years of job related experience
  • Ability to plan, promote and present library programs for children and teens
  • Knowledge of public library collections (in particular children's and teen literature), collection development and maintenance
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of automated library systems and e-resources
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills including the ability to deal with challenging patrons
  • Leadership and supervision skills
