The Port Moody Public Library is seeking a dynamic, strategic and innovative leader to join its management team. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the library with a focus on public services. You will work closely with the Director in the overall administration of the library, and serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence.
Specific accountabilities include:
Overseeing multiple specialized library services or functions by planning, organizing, managing and evaluating operations, and managing projects, in alignment with the Library’s strategic plan
Hiring, leading and promoting the development of staff
Preparing and monitoring operating and capital budgets.
Building and maintaining effective relationships with community groups, City departments, Lower Mainland library systems, and other organizations to foster collaborative service provision
Representing the library on professional committees and at meetings

Knowledge, abilities and skills required include:
A Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited post-secondary institution
Five to seven years of recent relevant experience, including at least three years in a senior leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship including practices and procedures related to the organization and implementation of library programs, collections, services and policies in a public library
- Thorough knowledge of trends and best practice in the use of technology in libraries
Demonstrated ability to be innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment
Proven record of achieving strategic outcomes in a timely manner
Demonstrated ability to consistently model and reinforce a collaborative and collegial team approach to library operations
Commitment to skill and knowledge development, and to providing a strong learning environment for staff
