Position Overview  
The Port Moody Public Library is seeking a dynamic, strategic and innovative leader to join its management team. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the library with a focus on public services. You will work closely with the Director in the overall administration of the library, and serve as Acting Director in the Director’s absence. 
Specific accountabilities include:
  • Overseeing multiple specialized library services or functions by planning, organizing, managing and evaluating operations, and managing projects, in alignment with the Library’s strategic plan
  • Hiring, leading and promoting the development of staff
  • Preparing and monitoring operating and capital budgets.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with community groups, City departments, Lower Mainland library systems, and other organizations to foster collaborative service provision
  • Representing the library on professional committees and at meetings

Basic Qualifications  
Knowledge, abilities and skills required include:
  • A Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) or Library Information Science (MLIS) from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Five to seven years of recent relevant experience, including at least three years in a senior leadership role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of librarianship including practices and procedures related to the organization and implementation of library programs, collections, services and policies in a public library
  • Thorough knowledge of trends and best practice in the use of technology in libraries
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and flexible in a rapidly changing library environment
  • Proven record of achieving strategic outcomes in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently model and reinforce a collaborative and collegial team approach to library operations
  • Commitment to skill and knowledge development, and to providing a strong learning environment for staff
  • Strong commitment to excellence in customer service
