We have a full time employment opportunity in our IT Database Administration department for a Database Administrator.
This position reports to the Manager, Database Administration.
The successful incumbent of this position will work closely with Operating System Storage Administrators and development teams to ensure the day-to-day integrity, security and performance of the database as data changes and the database’s structure is modified by development enhancements.
|Key Duties & Responsibilities
||•Daily review of the following:
oAll production back-ups, ensuring all are functioning in alignment with documented standards and procedures.
oSpace usage, providing updates and reports to ensure alignment with the capacity plan.
oProduction database alerts and logs to identify issues.
oUser access and security.
oProblematic queries – identifying, managing their escalation, optimization and redeployment.
•Escalation to a Senior Database Administrator of any issues appearing to affect database integrity or security.
•Coordinates regular recovery of data from backups (on and offsite) to ensure the integrity of the process.
•Daily review and management of all production back-ups, ensuring all are functioning in alignment with documented standards and procedures. Coordinates regular recovery of data from backups (on and offsite) to ensure the integrity of the process.
•Daily reviews, updates and reports on space usage in alignment with the capacity plan.
•Daily review of all production database alerts and logs for issues.
•Daily review of user access and security.
•Daily identification of problematic queries and management of their escalation, optimization, and redeployment.
•Reviews, coordinates, and promotes all changes affecting production databases in alignment with change control procedures.
•Writes database documentation, standards, and procedures for data definition, data access, and database management that affect the production databases.
•Coaches and mentors complex technical concepts to development team members with varying degrees of technical experience.
•First point of contact for all production support issues.
•Administration of other middleware infrastructure and tools.
|Criteria for Application
||•Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
•A growing awareness of database best-practice concepts, practices, and procedures.
•Four or more years experience as an IT professional or Operational DBA.
•Two or more years experience writing and tuning SQL.
•Knowledge of data modeling and an understanding of the associated design tools.
•Knowledge of database architectures and a growing awareness of how they are affected by physical infrastructure and OS alternatives.
•Systematic and organized approach to ensure that required daily operational tasks are completed in a timely fashion.
•Ability to exercise judgment and independently address routine production issues without further escalation.
•Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and open to change when faced with increased responsibility.
•Commitment to continuous improvement, actively engaging in learning to become aware of a broader scope of database configuration, management, and tuning.
•Experience with Oracle and SQL Server, Linux and Shell Scripts.
•Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
