We currently have a full time employment opportunity in our Legal Department for a Legal Assistant. This position reports to General Counsel.
|Key Duties & Responsibilities
•Provide legal administrative support to legal counsel in the delivery of legal services, including managing and preparing various legal documents.
•Prepare, modify, renew and register leases and other supplementary and related documentation as tenant (or landlord) of commercial properties; Draft various legal agreements, documents and correspondence for review by lawyers, using knowledge of laws/legislation, legal terminology, forms and documents related to legal procedures and practices;
•Perform B.C. and Alberta (online and agent) services and searches and land title office and PPR document filings;
•Review, audit and update in-house corporate entities and in-house trade-marks.
•Maintain multiple databases, tracking status and reporting on in-house corporate entities and in-house trade-marks.
•Prepare reports at various levels on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis;
•Respond to external and internal enquiries by applying previous legal experience and knowledge using tact, diplomacy and judgment.
•Variety of administrative duties, as required.
|Criteria for Application
•Minimum of 7 years experience in a legal administrative capacity, specifically in corporate/commercial and real estate law, complemented by a legal assistant certificate;
•Ability to read and understand lease documents, plans and land title searches;
•Ability to perform online services and searches through BC Online (including the ability to read and comprehend results from land titles, corporate, PPR, taxes, BC Assessment and court services) and Strategis (trade-mark NUANS searches and federal corporations);
•A high degree of proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically with MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint;
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to write/draft and interpret legal documents with a demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy;
•Ability to prioritize and manage workload, with the capability to co-ordinate multiple tasks with a high level of initiative ensuring deadlines are met with a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimum direction or supervision, as well as in a team environment;
•High degree of independence, tact, initiative, discretion and judgment, with the ability to use initiative and exercise judgment in identifying issues needing immediate attention and in identifying additional information needed to facilitate decision making by superior;
•Ability to recognize and react to confidential situations, using a high degree of discretion handling confidential information;
