Position Overview

Our Edmonton non-profit client has an exciting part-time Project Manager (2 - 2.5 days a week) position to fill.
The Project Manager is responsible for the overall logistical coordination and execution of a $10 million dollar project which encompasses all phases from planning and fundraising through to construction of a new Terra Centre facility.   The role provides leadership and direction as well as support, monitoring, tracking and implementation of strategies necessary to ensure a successful end result. The Project Manager applies service design, change management, process improvement and risk management principles. The position also provides resources, support, knowledge, and recommendations to the 5 committees charged with the implementation and completion of the project: 
  • Project Committee
  • Legal and Finance
  • Building and Construction
  • Government and Stakeholder Relations
  • Fundraising
  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, deliverables and process
  • Lead planning, management and implementation of project including: 
         - Support to the overall project plan as established
         - Execution of project plan
         - Monitoring and control
         - Project Charter oversight and implementation – development of Gantt Charts to track progress 
  • Identify, execute and monitor strategies that support committees in successfully meeting their end results
  • Ensure coordination of committee communications; relevant discussion and decision making 
  • Prepare for and manage all committee meetings including the provision of agendas, minutes and reports in a timely manner
  • Implement and manage critical paths and milestones and monitor mechanisms for the project
  • Continually analyze  the time lines and make necessary adjustments to maximize effectiveness and ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Ensure high quality and timely production of all deliverables including identification of  issues/barriers impacting the ability to realize deadlines; bring forward recommendations to address concerns

  • The Project Manager facilitates the critical stages of the project lifecycle, including: 
                      -  A current state analysis to identify key gaps associated with the issues/project/initiative
                      -  Prioritize key work for the project/initiative
                      -  Guide the identified project priorities to align with Terra’s strategic direction
                      -  Planning
                      -  Execution
                      -  Monitor and Control

                      -  Close the project 

  • Provides current information and recommendations re: the financial implications for the organization
  • Identifies major risks to the project
  • Provides current information and recommendations to the Executive Director related to impact on the Terra mission, vision and values
  • Works collaboratively with the agency Executive Director and committee members who are comprised of  members of the board and the community at large
  • Ensures expenditures are maintained within budgetary parameters
Mandatory Requirements
  • A minimum of  3-5 years project management experience
  • Certificate/degree in project management an asset
  • Proficient in IT systems and programs related to project management (e.g., MS Project, Project Basecamp, risk management, etc.)
  • Knowledge of the nonprofit sector
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. A record of accomplishment in the following areas:

           -    Knowledge of the best and leading practices applicable to project management including tools for process/monitoring and risk


           -    Team leadership skills including the ability to inspire and build confidence in others

           -    Experience in problem-solving, concerns resolution, investigation and negotiation

           -    Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills and commitment to providing quality services

           -    Demonstrated ability to foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders
