Responsibilities • Provide operational support to ensure problems are prevented where possible; and resolved according to business impact and agreements
• Implement highly reliable and cost effective infrastructure to meet business needs, individually and as part of larger teams
• Maintain and champion improvements to the infrastructure to ensure its viability, currency, security and reliability
• Monitor infrastructure using tools, techniques, responding in a timely manner to issues & alerts.
• Participate in corporate disaster recovery and business contingency initiatives as required
• Document and maintain standards, procedures, project deployments and support information
• Maintain awareness of industry trends and best practices
• Ensure all activity is in the best interests of the company, prioritized by business value
• Comply with problem, change, security and financial procedures
• Manage expectations with team, management and clients, and deliver on them
• Ensuring the availability of Unix Enterprise Infrastructure according to Shaw business requirements
• Develop, maintain processes/procedures to ensure Unix technologies are proactively maintained and monitored to assist in identifying negative performance trends and security vulnerabilities
• Participate in the problem identification/resolution and root cause analysis process
• Demonstrate a commitment to the process of continuous improvement, identify and respond actively with sensitivity to the needs of all customers, and be open and responsive to change
• Participate in complete system builds, upgrades, migrations, capacity and patch/module management
• Participate in on-call rotation for after hour escalations and support
Requirements • Degree/diploma in the Computer Sciences or equivalent work experience
• 5 years or more of direct experience in Unix Administration/Analyst role including installation, configuration, tuning, administration and support
• Experience with HPUX, Solaris, Linux, Virtualized Linux
• Familiarity with other enterprise components such as servers, storage, network, backup infrastructure.
• Competence in requirements analysis and communication
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn technology, business and industry skills
• Positive and energetic personality that contributes to team energy and cooperation
• Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines with multiple priorities
• Ability to communicate clearly with team members as well as clients
• Ability to work in a fast-paced customer-focused service environment
