Position Title Hiring Now 2013 - Summer Youth Coordinator
Position Overview
Come hang with us! The City of Kitchener offers a variety of activities for youth aged 12-17 through the Youth Drop-In, Doon Skatium Mobile Skateboard Park and Kitchener Youth Crew programs. As the Youth Drop-In Coordinator you will train and supervise staff to be positive, fun and energetic role-models for youth. You will also organize special events and lead the staff team in bring recreation and leadership opportunities to youth in a fun and relaxed environment.
-Coordinates drop-in programs (e.g., Youth Drop-in and skateboard park).
-Visits various program sites daily
-Ensures that equipment and supplies are available.
-Ensures policies and procedures are being followed. Addresses unsafe and unacceptable behavior. Pr refers to supervisor as appropriate
-Assists in  orientation, training, support, and evaluation of summer youth program staff.
-Provides support to program staff including feedback, addressing minor performance issues and refers to supervisor as required.
-Performs tasks to support the program (e.g., pay sheets, purchasing supplies, arranging transportation, statistics)
-Provides feedback to Youth Supervisors and Youth Leaders through mid-term and final evaluations.
-Facilitate weekly staff meetings
-Assists staff in addressing youth behaviour issues and implement effective behaviour management strategies as needed.
-Assists staff in completing of paperwork.
-Tracks budget and weekly finances of sites.
-Plans, coordinates and implements special events.
-Distributes materials and permission forms.
-Supervises up to 15 youth staff
-Assists with writing the final summer report prior to completion of program.
-Provides first aid as required.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.




-          Must have minimum Grade 12 diploma
-          Must have a satisfactory Police Reference Check- Vulnerable Sector
-          Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification
-          Must have Class a minimum G2 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for the full duration of employment.
-          Must have a minimum 6 months of related experience
Recommended age: 18 or older
Rate of pay: $14.47 per hour
Employment Dates: May 8-August 13, 2014
Hours a week: 15hrs/wk May 8-June 7; 35hrs/wk June 10-August 30
Hours of work: Daytime hours May 8-June 7; 2-10pm June 10-August 30

Conditions of Employment (December 2013)
1.   As per Council Policy 11-110, “Employment of Relatives of Staff Members and Elected Officials”:
·        Immediate relatives of staff of the human resources division, directors, general managers, the chief administrative officer and elected officials shall not be employed by the city in any capacity.
·        Immediate relatives of all other management personnel shall not be employed within the same division (in the case of students).
2.   Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age or over as of the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified.
3.   Employment is conditional upon the provision of current certification in Standard First-aid (CPR, Level C) as well as the provision of a satisfactory and current Police Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector. A police reference check must be dated NO EARLIER THEN the job posting deadline. Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
4.   The selection of staff is based on a combination of application, resume review, and interview.
5.   The City of Kitchener does not guarantee employment for any applicant or returning staff. 
6.   Employment is conditional upon; attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
