Position Title Hiring Now 2014-Breithaupt Camp-World Explorers Camp Leader
Position Overview  
The City of Kitchener offers the following four day camps at Breithaupt Centre: Kids Crafts and Games for children currently in grades JK-1, Kids in Motion for grades 1-3, Sports Camp for grades 4-7 and World Explorers for grades 2-6. Each camp provides children with the opportunity to participate in indoor, outdoor and pool activities related to the topic of the camp.

 
The Camp Leader implements and delivers age appropriate educational camp activities for children.
Responsibilities  
·         Implements and delivers age appropriate educational camp activities for children (e.g. specialized fields such as sports, cultures around the world, environment, etc.)
·         Plans, leads and participates in camp activities. Modifies programs to accommodate abilities/needs of participants, weather conditions, etc.
·         Supervises campers at all times
·         Adheres to daily camp schedules
·         Assists Inclusion Facilitators and private support workers to accommodate children with special needs.
·         Ensures the safety and enjoyment of participants through communication, monitoring, and enforcement of program and facility rules, and addresses unsafe and unacceptable behavior; refers to supervisor as appropriate. Reports all incidents/accidents and assists with camp emergency procedures.
·         Completes records and reports including attendance, accident/incident reports, etc.
·         Responds to participants immediate concerns and/or needs
·         Interacts with and ensures parent/guardians are informed of the participant’s daily activities and overall well-being as required.
·         Provides direction, monitors activities, and gives feedback to volunteers.
·         Provides first aid as required.
·         Performs other related duties as assigned
Requirements
·         Must have minimum equivalent to partial secondary school education.
·         Must have Current Standard First Aid (CPR Level C) certification, and a satisfactory Police Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector as of June 19, 2013. Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
·         Must have a minimum 3 months related experience
·         Must have experience working with children
·         Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with children with disabilities.
·         Will be required to enter the pool as part of pool program participation.
·         Must have knowledge of or interest in arts, crafts, songs, and games from different areas of the world.
 
Employment Dates: June20 – August 24, 2014
Hours a week: 40 hours/week
Hours of work: 8:00-4:00,  8:345-4:45 or 9:00-5:30
Wage range: $10.53-$12.84 per hour
Additional Information: No work June 27,28, July 1,, August 4.

Conditions of Employment (December 2013)
 
1.   As per Council Policy 11-110, “Employment of Relatives of Staff Members and Elected Officials”:
·        Immediate relatives of staff of the human resources division, directors, general managers, the chief administrative officer and elected officials shall not be employed by the city in any capacity.
·        Immediate relatives of all other management personnel shall not be employed within the same division (in the case of students).
 
2.   Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age or over as of the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified.
 
3.   Employment is conditional upon the provision of current certification in Standard First-aid (CPR, Level C) as well as the provision of a satisfactory and current Police Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector. A police reference check must be dated NO EARLIER THEN the job posting deadline. Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
 
4.   The selection of staff is based on a combination of application, resume review, and interview.
 
5.   The City of Kitchener does not guarantee employment for any applicant or returning staff. 
 
6.   Employment is conditional upon; attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
