Position Title Executive Director – Office of the C.A.O.
Position Overview
 
 
In a progressive new leadership structure, you will define and take on a broad and influential mandate that touches all of Kitchener’s services to its 232,000 residents.  Your strategic and operational partnership with the C.A.O. will support the City’s robust growth and quality of life.
 
With its mid-sized cities, outdoor recreation, rich historical legacy and agricultural tradition, Southwestern Ontario continues to thrive as a family and business friendly region. In the middle of it all is Kitchener, a City with its own unique character, yet located within easy driving distance of Toronto, Detroit and Ontario cottage country. Kitchener’s economy produces consumer goods, boasts a solid manufacturing sector and has established a reputation as an innovation centre in education, healthcare, technology and advanced manufacturing.  In addition to parkland, trails and recreational facilities, this safe, affordable and engaged City actively supports museums, galleries, theatre and music. 
 
As Executive Director, you will provide advice, information, support and assistance to the Chief Administrative Officer. Your oversight and leadership of 35 staff members will ensure that the Office of the C.A.O. stays current and moves forward on Council directives, strategic initiatives and special projects. Acting as a de facto ambassador for the Office, you’ll develop relationships across the municipality and with stakeholder committees. Through written and face-to-face communication, keep the C.A.O. and City department heads informed. Your operational responsibilities will include a diverse group of services: Communications and Marketing; Customer Service; the Office of the Mayor and Council; Project Integration and Coordination; Strategy and Business Planning. Develop business plans, budgets and service levels. Support staff members with clear direction, performance feedback and skills development.
   
Over the past 7 – 10 years, you have demonstrated a creative, thoughtful, service centered approach in a municipal or similar government environment. Your track record includes progressive operational leadership and collaborative support of senior management.  As the right hand to Kitchener’s C.A.O., you will make a major contribution to the efficiency, livability and future success of a great city.
