Position Title Hiring Now 2014- Breithaupt Camps Assistant Coordinator
Position Overview
 
The City of Kitchener offers the following four day camps at Breithaupt Centre: Kids Crafts and Games for children currently in grades JK-1, Kids in Motion for grades 1-3, Sports Camp for grades 4-7 and World Explorers for grades 2-6. Each camp provides children with the opportunity to participate in indoor, outdoor and pool activities related to the topic of the camp.
 
 
Responsibilities
 
 
·         Assists with the planning, organizing and implementation of camp programs for children
·         Acts as on-site contact to camp staff and ensures the delivery of safe, quality, and age appropriate programs in accordance with City guidelines
·         Administers the daily camp lunch program. Collects cash payments.
·         Ensures the safety and enjoyment of participants through communication, monitoring, and enforcement of program and facility rules, and addresses unsafe and unacceptable behavior; refers to supervisor as appropriate
·         Assists with the integration of volunteer, inclusion staff, and private inclusion support workers.
·         Takes action to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies and parent concerns according to policies and procedures; refers to supervisor as appropriate.
·         Communicates with participants and parents regarding camp activities/programs and participants behavior.
·         Assists participants with personal care (e.g. toileting, changing) as required.
·         Provides first aid as required.
·         Acts as back-up to Camp Leader as required.
·         Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
 
Requirements
 
 
·         Must have minimum Grade 12 diploma
·         Must have Current Standard First Aid (CPR Level C), and a satisfactory Police Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector as of June 1, 2014. Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
·         Must have a minimum of 6 months related experience
·         Must have experience working with children with disabilities
·         Will be required to enter the pool as part of pool programing participation
 
Employment Dates: June 19 – August 22, 2014
Hours a week: 40 hours/week
Hours of work: 8:00-4:00 pm (may vary)
Wage range: $12.84 - $14.17 per hour
Additional Information: No work June 27-28, July 1, August 4.

Conditions of Employment (December 2013)
 
1.   As per Council Policy 11-110, “Employment of Relatives of Staff Members and Elected Officials”:
·        Immediate relatives of staff of the human resources division, directors, general managers, the chief administrative officer and elected officials shall not be employed by the city in any capacity.
·        Immediate relatives of all other management personnel shall not be employed within the same division (in the case of students).
 
2.   Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age or over as of the first day of employment, unless otherwise specified.
 
3.   Employment is conditional upon the provision of current certification in Standard First-aid (CPR, Level C) as well as the provision of a satisfactory and current Police Reference Check – Vulnerable Sector. A police reference check must be dated NO EARLIER THEN the job posting deadline. Any related costs are the sole responsibility of the applicant.
 
4.   The selection of staff is based on a combination of application, resume review, and interview.
 
5.   The City of Kitchener does not guarantee employment for any applicant or returning staff. 
 
6.   Employment is conditional upon; attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
