As a Digital Sales Manager, you will be part of the Digital Ad Sales Retail Team which consists of other Digital Sales Managers and a Digital Sales Coordinator.
 
The Account Executives/Teams you will work with will be determined based on the skill set you bring to the table. We handle a variety of industries/clients - major/key accounts and/or National retail accounts, and local retailers. This includes a variety of retailers, healthcare, financial, entertainment, travel, and education accounts. We also work with National agencies, retailers, and ad brokers.
 
Your job responsibilities will primarily be two-fold, and include other tasks as needed, (1) Drive Digital Ad Revenue, and (2) Educate Account Executives About Digital Products.
 
(1) Drive Digital Revenue: You will be assigned a group of Advertising Sales Account Executives in the Retail Advertising Department to partner with and help drive digital revenue for their accounts.

  • Online Display campaigns on the Journal Network - which consists of 30+ locally owned market leading sites – JSOnline.com, Entertainment site TapMilwaukee.com, Local Community NOW Sites like BrookfieldNow.com, MilwaukeeMoms.com and WisconsinTrails.com
  • Full suite of online display targeting options including Retargeting/Remarketing, Keyword Targeting, Behavioral Targeting, Day-parting, Geographic Targeting and more
  • Access to Leading National Websites via the Journal Outreach Network
  • Access to full Search Engine Marketing and Search Engine Optimization Solutions
  • Variety of Email Marketing, Online Contesting, Video Advertising and Mobile Ad Solutions
  • Access to all the digital products offered by our agency, JS Digital Solutions; including Web Design and Optimization, Reputation Management, Social Media publishing tools, etc
  • Access to our in-house ad agency/marketing department to help develop the big ideas
 
 
About our Sales Process: After conducting a solid needs analysis, you will develop a proposal which includes ideas to solve our client’s needs. This will involve creating a detailed media recommendation, selecting the best data/market research/examples to support your recommendations and then write/verbalize solid, compelling rationale for your recommendations. You will work to blend online and traditional offline advertising solutions.
 
(2) Educate Advertising Sales Account Executives about Digital Products: Keep up to date on digital trends and continually share your digital product knowledge with Account Executives to help keep them up to speed with all our latest digital offerings to help develop their overall digital skill set. 
 
You will be involved in our Digital Certification Program - developing training collateral, leading training for the sales staff, and providing digital information to our Sales Trainer for various training sessions.
Responsibilities
 
 
  • Strong digital product knowledge about search, social media, online display advertising, mobile, retargeting and web marketing. 
  • Service a core base of existing accounts to achieve high retention and create growth opportunities along with a strong working knowledge of agency/client relationships.
  • Share your digital products knowledge with Account Executives to help keep them up to speed with all our latest digital offerings and help to develop their overall digital skill set.
  • Create/Maintain an active target account list with your team of AE's and actively move these targets through the sales funnel on a monthly basis.
  • Develop plans to contact new business leads on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively on complex sales proposals with multiple interactive products and departments
  • Keep track of your digital sales numbers, attend department forecast meetings, develop sales strategies to meet/exceed your digital sales goals, and if you're not on pace to hit your goal - develop gap recovery plans to help you get there.
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines and achieve established goals.
  • Be comfortable delivering formal presentations.
  • Be able to work well with others, and collaborate with the team manager(s) who are the people managers of the AE's you are assigned to work with. 
Requirements

 

 
 
  • Bachelor's Degree desired or equivalent work experience of 4+ years of outside sales experience.
  • 2 years minimum outside/premise sales experience with digital media required.
  • Should know what the acronyms SEM/PPC and SEO mean - if not, probably not the job for you.
  • Strong digital product knowledge about search, social media, online display advertising, mobile, retargeting and web marketing. 
  • Effective communication and professional appearance required.
  • Must demonstrate some creativity and ability to think up the next "big idea".
  • Must be able to identify good sales opportunities with both existing clients and new business -- and develop ideas around them.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and demonstrate ability to develop extensive proposals with multiple products.
  • A proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and dependable vehicle, as travel is required.
  • Strong computer skills are required, with strong ability to use Microsoft Office systems including Word, Excel and Power Point. (Previous experience with developing Power Point presentations and/or proposals is preferred.)
  • We use the following systems: G-Mail, Salesforce CRM Tool, and OpenX Ad Serving Platform -- it's not imperative you know how to use them now, but must learn all systems.
  • Experience working in retail, finance, healthcare, education, grocery, travel or entertainment field helpful, but not required.
  • Some experience coaching, training and developing sales teams helpful, but not required.
