Title #2013-128 Career Services Coordinator - Placement
Position Summary Under general direction of the Manager, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and oversight of programs and services primarily related to Career Services. Accountability within the department includes: Career Centre operations, employment advising, graduate and professional school advising, event planning, field placement coordination, employer relations development, and new student transition programming. The incumbent is required to assist in all areas of the department while also managing the administration of field placement including delivering in-class work search training, advising students on placement procedures, approving placement documentation and maintaining placement and employer relationships. Workshop development, facilitation and delivery are also major components of the position. This position is integral to the University of Guelph-Humber’s commitment to supporting student’s transition in, through and out of university and for meeting and maintaining retention goals.
Qualifications The successful candidate will possess an undergraduate degree along with a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience in career or employment services. Experience working in a student services environment is preferred. Other qualifications include: a sound understanding of student development theories and factors that impact student learning: experience supervising and motivating student staff; excellent program planning and implementation skills; proven ability to work efficiently and diplomatically in public settings; exceptional communication skills, including public speaking; strong ability to analyse and interpret data and translate it into an action plan; demonstrated ability to work with students in an advising or mentoring role; as well as an ability to relate well and respectfully to a diverse range of individuals. The successful candidate must be self-motivated, flexible and be able to exercise sound judgement. Excellent interpersonal, listening, problem-solving and customer relations skills are essential for this position.
