Title #2013-177 HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic
Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Plant Services, the incumbent performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of natural gas fired and refrigerant based Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration equipment. Specifically, the incumbent will carry out preventative maintenance according to a schedule; respond to demand work orders as generated by a work order system; repair HVAC and Refrigeration equipment including rebuilding pumps and valves, fabrication of housings and pipes, motor repair including installing new bearings, shafts and gaskets; equipment installation including welding piping; maintain stock of common HVAC and Refrigeration components; and maintain records and equipment documentation. As a key member of the Plant Services team, the incumbent will be on-call for approximately six weeks per year according to a published schedule.
Qualifications The successful candidate will possess HVAC & Refrigeration Journeyman certification 313A, current valid G1 Gas Technician certificate and ODP certification, and a minimum of five years of related work experience. Possession of an Operating Engineer and/or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Certificate would be considered an asset. Additional qualifications include: experience performing all aspects of troubleshooting and repair of natural gas fired and refrigerant based HVAC & Refrigeration equipment in an institutional setting; experience with preventative maintenance procedures, troubleshooting/programming Building Automation Systems; and reading technical data and blueprints. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as Health & Safety training in WHMIS, Lockout-Tagout and Mould/Asbestos. The travel component of this position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver’s license.
