|Position Overview :
||The Globe and Mail is seeking a dynamic reporter to expand our news organization’s journalistic reach in Alberta, a province that has been transformed in recent years and energized by the West’s evolving political and economic clout.
The successful candidate will have a zeal for producing original, insightful journalism on all platforms and will be given a broad canvas to tell our readers Alberta’s story. It is a diverse mandate that can encompass provincial politics and federal-provincial relations; climate, energy and environment; aboriginal affairs and immigration; as well as regional comedies, tragedies and crimes. Experience with business reporting – on the oil industry, in particular – would be an advantage. Creativity, versatility and ambition are a must.
This is a challenging role, but one that is ripe with opportunity. Our readers are hungry for news and insight from Alberta, which is not only undergoing dramatic economic change but also the kind of social transformation that accompanies it. This is a critical market for The Globe and the successful candidate will have a chance to rewrite and reframe the province’s narrative for readers within Alberta and without.
The position will require strong writing and quick thinking, as deadline pressures are often exacerbated by the time difference.
