Scheduling Coordinator for Interpreters
$29.70 - $34.48 per hour
35 hours per week
October 15, 2013 to May 1, 2014
Assigns work to 70 contract service providers; schedules interpreters into classes with students in all the Metro Toronto Colleges; schedules interpreters for college wide events, as requested.
Liaises with contract service providers; provides guidance on College policies and procedures.
Maintains a high volume of confidential student information; communicates with students as needed using American Sign Language (ASL).
Evaluates each request for service received in person, on the phone/teletypewriter (TTY) or by e-mail and determines the most appropriate course of action to take that will meet each person’s needs effectively; analyses requirements and determines which students receive service and in what sequence in order to comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC).
Operates the Colleges On line Request System (CORS) (an online database accessed through the internet which allows students to post their interpreter needs and also provides information for interpreters to express interest in available assignments).
Liaises with service providers and student consumers (in ASL) to assist them in posting service requirements and availability on the CORS system; promotes their use of the system to ensure that the system meets their requirements.
Identifies technical problems with CORS and works with the system developer to reach solutions.
Verifies invoices submitted for payment on a weekly basis.
Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student workers for the daily operation of the Deaf Services Information Desk at the St. James Campus; recruits, hires, trains and supervises part-time clerical staff to work in the Department during school start-up.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Three-year diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Office Administration, Social Sciences, Community Services, or equivalent.
Minimum three years’ experience in scheduling using a database; experience with statistical reporting, supervising, recruiting, mentoring and training employees.
Fluency in ASL; excellent English oral and written communication and research skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; fast and accurate keyboarding skills.
Excellent conflict resolution, negotiation and leadership skills; strong interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to customer service.
Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills in order to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and select appropriate actions.
High degree of diplomacy and discretion in dealing with sensitive issues and matters of confidentiality.
Proven organizational and coordination skills; detailed oriented.
Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions while dealing with conflicting demands and distractions; ability to prioritize and delegate work while meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Able to learn quickly and stay abreast of changes to College policies and procedures, and the OHRC.
Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
