Duties
  • Performs typical cleaning duties throughout the campus buildings (e.g., corridors, classrooms, washrooms), such as: sweeping and mopping floors; stripping and refinishing floors; vacuuming and steam cleaning carpeted areas; and vacuuming and mopping stairs. 
  • Collects waste/recycling in corridors, classrooms, offices, washrooms and outside areas.
  • Cleans and disinfects washrooms (surfaces, toilets and sinks) and shower facilities; replenishes washroom supplies.
  • Assists in the overall maintenance of a clean, healthy and safe building environment.
  • Operates a range of equipment (auto scrubbers, burnishers, carpet cleaners, compactor and bailer, vacuum cleaners/back-packs, etc.).
  • Informs Senior Caretaker or manager if machines need servicing.
  • Informs supervisor of significant maintenance or repairs required to College properties.
  • Exchanges routine information, extending common courtesy by providing directions to areas within the college to students, staff or visitors.
  • Participates in set up/tear down of special functions.
  • Other related duties as assigned; may include but is not limited to dusting locker tops, spot cleaning walls, and washing white boards.
Qualifications
  • Up to high school or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year general cleaning experience in an industrial, institutional or commercial setting, including the operation of a range of equipment (auto scrubbers, burnishers, compactor and bailer, carpet extraction/shampooing, etc.) and cleaning different types of surfaces (glass, floor refinishing/sealing/scrubbing, etc.).
  • Knowledge of floor finishing materials and application methods.
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of scrubbing, vacuum, shampoo and steam-cleaning machinery.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and communicate in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to handle staff and student requests with tact and diplomacy.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize.
  • Physical capability to undertake heavy cleaning; ability to bend, stoop and lift 5 to 20 kg.
  • Ability to work in an environment where diversity of people and situations are encountered.
 
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 6am -2pm
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
 
The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews.
