Duties
Responsible for providing emergency and preventative plumbing maintenance to college facilities by: repairing flushometers, measuring, cutting, soldering pipes, replacing taps, sinks, toilets, clearing/snaking drains and rebuilding drinking fountains.
Provides emergency repairs and preventative maintenance to locks, doors & door closing systems.
Responsible for replacing locks, hinges, changing cores and adjusting door closers.
Provides assistance to skilled trades as requested and required to perform repairs or other duties, e.g. changing filters or fan belts, preparing HVAC systems for operation or winterization.
Performs various duties to maintain college facilities including work associated with carpentry, masonry, painting, mechanical, electrical.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Two year Certificate of Apprenticeship in an appropriate field.
Minimum three years practical work experience in tasks associated with repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment in industrial, commercial or institutional environment.
Demonstrated ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks, including the capacity to plan and execute own work and to work within a team.
Must have Mechanical/Electrical aptitude to use basic maintenance shop tools, including power tools and equipment; basic knowledge of replacement parts for equipment repairs.
Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
Must adhere to policies and procedures as set out in various manuals i.e. safety information (WHIMIS), Building Codes, material and equipment specifications etc.
Ability to understand instructions and to read floor plans, diagrams and blue prints.
Good interpersonal skills, co-operative attitude and excellent customer service skills; ability to deal with people under pressure.
Good judgment and accuracy; attention to detail and safety.
Ability to stoop, bend and work in tight spaces; ability to lift over 44 lbs (machinery components, motors, ladders etc.).
Ability to adapt to the changing technology and working environment.
Ability to work in an environment where a diversity of people and situations are encountered.
The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews.
