Faculty – Teaching Scale
The Professor is responsible for providing academic leadership and for developing an effective learning environment for students through the design, revision, updating of courses, defining and validating learning outcomes, developing appropriate teaching and learning environments, and the development/selection of appropriate learning materials. The Professor also teaches subjects in his/her area of expertise, tutors and counsels students, and evaluates student progress/achievements. The Professor participates in the work of curriculum, program advisory and other committees and keeps current in his/her field through consultation with business and industry representatives. The Professor may also be called upon to contribute to other areas of activity ancillary to the academic programs of the Faculty.
The successful candidate for this position will be able to teach students in all years of the Bachelor of Technology – Construction Management program. The candidate is expected to teach a variety of courses in construction management, including, but not limited to, strengths of materials, structural design and analysis, materials science, construction science, building inspection, building condition assessments, deconstruction methods, construction methods and materials, construction technologies, National and Ontario Building Codes, Building Information Modeling (BIM), innovations in construction, and advanced research. He/she will write proposals for research grants; develop and conduct applied research projects in collaboration with students, faculty researchers, and industry partners. The successful candidate will provide advisement to undergraduate students, and direct and supervise graduating students’ theses. He/she will be required to participate in Program Advisory Committee (PAC), Student Representative Council (SRC) meetings and/or other consultative committees as required. He/she will direct Materials Research Labs.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of a PhD degree with a specialization in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering and a professional designation such as the Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng.), Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (C.Eng.); offer a minimum of five years professional experience in structural design and materials research, and have a minimum of two years teaching and curriculum development experience at the post-secondary level. The candidate must possess demonstrated expertise in the areas of strengths of materials, structural design and analysis, materials science, construction science, construction methods and materials, materials testing, construction technologies of high-rise and ICIC structures, value engineering, National and Ontario Building Codes, building condition assessments, deconstruction methods, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and innovations in construction. He/she must have demonstrated experience in teaching in lecture and laboratory-based, hands-on, applied teaching/learning environment; experience in writing research grant proposals and developing applied research projects; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners; practical experience using computer applications: BIM, REVIT, NavisWorks, Project, Primavera, Excel, and structural packages; effective communication skills, both oral and written; experience in curriculum development and field supervision; and experience using ASTM/CSA documentation.

Candidates must also be committed to working within a team environment and to participating in a consultative decision-making process.
The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews.
