Within the context of creating a positive working and student learning environment the Human Resources Department is committed to providing leadership to the College with respect to Human Resources services and creating a culture of employee engagement.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Human Resources, the Senior Human Resources Consultant provides a full range of proactive Human Resources consulting/advising services and coaching to a specific client portfolio of Managers and staff from the Academic and/or Administrative areas of the College. The position supports the Executive Director in the formulation, implementation and administration of sound human resources strategies and best practices for full-time and part-time staff of the College in all areas of human resources, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, labour relations and job evaluation. Working with the assigned client groups as a business partner, the incumbent develops an understanding of their key strategies and objectives and provides human resources expertise and technical support to meeting objectives and resolving issues. The position contributes in an area of specialty such as recruitment, job analysis and/or employee relations, and works in partnership with specialist areas of the department, including Labour Relations, Total Compensation, Staff Development among others. This position will have a lead role on HR strategic projects as assigned, and contributes as a team member and resource to other Managers and Support staff within the Human Resources Department on general human resources matters.


A four-year university degree in Human Resources from a recognized post-secondary institution or an acceptable equivalent and a minimum of seven years of experience in a unionized environment are required; a CHRP designation would be an asset. Experience and sound knowledge of the recruitment, labour and employee relations areas is required. Experience working in a medium to large public sector organization is a definite asset. Demonstrated expertise in understanding and working with Ontario’s workplace legislation (Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Labour Relations Act), collective agreements and policies is required.  Demonstrated experience in applying superior oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, research/analytical skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills; proven ability to build effective working relationships is essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership in client service and demonstrated effectiveness as a business partner, with the ability to adapt the advice and solutions he/she provides to a diverse and dynamic post-secondary learning environment, covering a wide variety of human resources issues. Good judgment, discretion, and confidentiality are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.

The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews.
