Provides behaviour guidance and ongoing supervision of playroom, playground, group, individual and routine activities.
Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy environment by performing periodic safety checks of equipment, facilities and identifies children who are unwell.
Plans and implements a program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Demonstrates and explains effective curriculum and guidance strategies; provides on the spot feedback, direction and support to the Early Childhood Educators and Early Childhood Assistant students.
Establishes and maintains relationships with parents through open communication by daily written charts, daily interactions, formal parent interviews and parent information sessions.
Maintains a current knowledge of E.C.E theory, practice and issues.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two-year Early Childhood Education diploma from a recognized post secondary institution or the AECEO equivalency.
Must be registered with the College of E.C.E. and be in good standing as of April 1, 2009.
Current St. John’s Ambulance or Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate.
Minimum one year post diploma experience in a licensed preschool/childcare setting.
Proven ability to design a curriculum.
Ability to provide guidance and feedback to E.C.E. students and E.C.A.’s; high degree of diplomacy and tact.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; exceptional observation and reporting skills.
Ability to spend most of the day at the child’s level, i.e. sitting on the floor, or on child height chairs.
Able to bend, stoop and lift child to adult height (up to 20 kg) and to move children’s furniture or equipment to prepare room for programming needs.
Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
