Position Overview

Fortinet is growing and we are looking to hire a technical writer to join our growing team in Ottawa.  As a technical writer, you will be responsible for creating, editing, and updating part of our extensive collection of technical documentation. You must have excellent research skills, the ability to clearly and accurately organize your ideas, and be able to articulate very technical terms and concepts into text, graphics, and video that different levels of users can understand.

 
Job Description
 
  • Complete documents according to our guidelines for style, clarity, accuracy, and concision
  • Test documents for accuracy & completeness
  • Provide analysis of software and usability issues
  • Suggest ideas for GUI improvements
  • Deliver projects globally on time
  • Design, develop, and maintain documents & videos for customers & partners including:
  1. Deployment guides/Cookbooks
  2. Handbooks
  3. References
  4. Videos
  5. Release notes
  6. Network diagrams
  
Qualifications: 
  • TCP/IP networking experience required (Network stack knowledge or CCNA/CCISP beneficial)
  • Software industry experience required; Agile/Scrum beneficial
  • Competence with Subversion, Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Distiller, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Word required
  • VMware/Amazon cloud computing experience beneficial
  • LAMP, Python, JavaScript, OpenSSL, WordPress, WebWorks, Distiller, and YouTube experience beneficial
  • Excellent verbal and visual communication skills
  • Quick learner
  • Ability to effectively, efficiently use the Internet & lab equipment to research & check facts
  • Team player
  • Flexible, motivated attitude
  • Delivers well-disciplined results on time with minimal supervision
 
 
Educational Requirement:
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably Computer Science or MIS)
  • Technical writing coursework, certificate, or diploma required
