 Controller, Mid-sized Real Estate Investment and Lending Company, Vancouver, Work with Highly Respected Team!
 
Reporting to the CEO and CFO, this role is responsible for managing the day to day financial accounting activities for a large dynamic group of development, investment and lending entities. This is a hands-on-role that is suited to a mature, bright CA who enjoys getting involved in complex investment structures work with a fantastic team of professionals.
 
Responsibilities include:
·         Managing the day to day financial accounting activities of a large, dynamic group of development, investment and lending entities, including hands-on full cycle accounting and in-house ASPE compliant reporting for trusts, partnerships and corporations.
·         Accounting and administration of investment and development entities from inception through dissolution including: preparation and maintenance of tracking schedules for loans and complex investments; accounting for Canadian and US dollar denominated transactions; reconciliation of related party transactions; review of construction finance draw requests; and coordinating wind up and dissolution of entities upon project completion.
·         Coordinate and manage year end reporting and tax compliance for partnerships, corporations and trusts from preparation of year end working paper packages; communication with external tax consultants; coordinating timing and review of tax returns prior to filing; and responding to Canada Revenue Agency information requests.
·         Day to day management of cash and banking arrangements, insurance requirements, internal control policies and procedures, payroll and ensure GST tax and corporate compliance.
·         Provide analytical support to CFO regarding business and operational decisions including: review and administration of leases and other project related contracts; assessment of investment alternative, strategies and performance using a various qualitative and quantitative metrics.
·         Develop, maintain and update comprehensive organizational budgets and cash flow forecasts to assist and advise on short and long-term strategic planning.
Skills, qualities and experience:
·         Post-secondary education preferably in Business or Finance
·         Designated  CA preferred
·         Adaptability to changing needs with an openness to taking on additional responsibilities and ad hoc projects
·         Strong communication skills
·         Ability to multi-task and maintain a detail oriented approach in a fast paced environment
·         Proven ability to self-identify, and think through problems with both a macro and micro-perspective
·         Strong knowledge of Canadian and US corporate and individual tax
·         Proficient MS Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), and excellent MS Excel skills – pivot tables, formulas, functions. Some experience with QuickBooks and Simply Accounting.
·         Ability to prioritize and work independently and within a team
·         Conservatism and prudence, high ethical and professional standards
·         Familiarity with the real estate development and construction industry
