Position Description Job Description:          
The Lead, Professional Practice –Respiratory Therapy supports the development of Respiratory Therapy professional practice initiatives including the implementation of best practices, optimization of scope of practice, response to legislative changes, and support for the development of an infrastructure for education and student placement. The Lead will work to ensure that the profession’s practice is well supported and embedded in the corporate model for interprofessional practice and patient centred care. The PPL will seek ways for Respiratory Therapy to contribute to a model of collaborative care and to advance the profile of Respiratory Therapy. The PPL will report to the Director of Professional Practice. 
  • Current registration in good standing with professional college (and professional associations as appropriate)
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a leadership role
  • Demonstrated teambuilding and leadership skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated effective change management skills
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict management skills
  • Supports the contribution and role of Respiratory Therapy in the development of interprofessional initiatives including an interprofessional education framework, a revised model of care, enhanced interprofessional team collaboration and documentation
  • Works with health profession leadership to develop and implement plans to address changes in professional standards, educational affiliations and legislation
  • Acts a liason with University of Toronto and other schools with regard to student placement processes and supports the evolution of CVH to a teaching facility
  • Provides an advisory expert role with regard to Respiratory Therapy professional practice
  • Provides education regarding current topics of professional practice
  • Establishes and maintains quality management initiatives aligned with established Respiratory Therapy practice standards and promotes a vision of excellence internally and in the external community
  • Develops, implements and communicates performance measures in keeping with professional and hospital standards
  • Maintains effective linkages with professional and relevant clinical specialty associations and organizations to remain up to date on current practice issues and trends
  • Works collaboratively with professional practice representatives in other professions to advance the corporate professional practice model and approach to interprofessional care
